I designed this parade float from the brief - Melbourne's architecture and the community's response to living in it.
I wanted to involve as many people as possible in the decoration of the float, so created three main activities.
1. 'Painting a window into your world' - I limited the colour palette on offer to differentiate the sides of the towers. This had the desired effect of the float changing in appearance as it was viewed from different angles.
2. Making flowers - I provided a whole range of materials for people to create a fantasy flowers for the Tower Block's gardens.
3. Glueing. - This was really popular with the very young. The various shapes of random discarded objects gave the cut out tree shapes an interesting texture.
The three 'playful and cartoon styled' tower blocks.
